Centennial Pavilion - Kowhai Park

Fantasy in Lights

Since 2005, the club has operated "Fantasy in Lights" at Kowhai Park, Feilding. Held during the two weeks of the July school holidays, this popular family event has been extremely successful. The park is lit up with colorful lights in a variety of themed areas including circus acts and fairy tale characters. Club member Russell Parker has delighted visitors with roles as a gorilla swinging from a tree and rising out of a coffin.

Wishing Well

Visitors to Lights in the Park in July 2007 were invited to leave a wish in the wishing well. The club had great pleasure in granting some of these.

A boy who asked for a steam trip ride because he LOVES trains. We arranged a ride to Taihape on the Feilding steam train.

One little girl who wished for flowers for her grandmother also went on the train along with her mum and wee sister. The grandmother has been sent flowers courtesy of our club and another wee girl who asked for ‘a trip to the library” went along with her nanny.

Two little boys [friends] who asked for just “a lightstick please” also came along with their respective mums and they were given a lightstick.

A little boy asked for a grocery voucher for his great grandma. Club member Neil Hogg arranged and delivered this. The boy was also offered a train ride.

Youth

We regularly sponsor local young people to attend Spirit of Adventure, Outward Bound, Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) and Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN). The club sponsors an annual $1000 scholarship for high school leavers going onto further study. For more details about these programmes, contact our club directors
